The only explanation for some of the opportunities that come my way is to attribute them to the power of positive thinking. There have been several times in my career when I have made my mind up to work with a certain celebrity, and then it happens. It may not happen in a week, a month, or even a year, but sometimes it happens.

I have always wanted to work with Liza Minelli (as would anyone in his right mind), partially because she is an American icon and partially because of her lineage, but mainly because of that remarkable, unmistakable face-the face of Cabaret! I knew that she would be an amazing woman. And I was right.

My opportunity finally came by surprise. I was booked to fly to London and make up Liza for an event honoring her for her work in the fight against AIDS. It was an incredible experience that I will always cherish. As I was doing her makeup in her hotel suite, there were moments when I felt completely overwhelmed. I was painting Liza Minelli! It was truly surreal. As I suspected, she was fabulous and a pleasure to work with. I was very proud of how amazing she looked. Even if I never have the chance to work with her again, the experience remains one of the highs of my career, a wish come true. Mary J. Blige has always said to me, "Careful what you wish for, because you will speak it into truth." So, think positively, be patient, and speak your dreams into reality. Someone's always listening.
